NewsLetter April 2003

A Review of Last Half Term

We were pleased to see so many of you at parent consultations and hope that you found the meeting helpful and informative. We value regular contact with parents and want you to feel that you can always arrange to see us if you have a concern. It is easier if you make an appointment as staff are often involved in after-school meetings in addition to Wednesday staff meeting.

You already know how successful Pancake Pandemonium was. We had a super day and are very grateful to all parents who helped by sending in pancakes or by helping at school during the day. It is great to see the school community coming together in such an event. Having been initially disappointed that the helicopter was grounded on that day we were delighted that it was able to come later to collect our cheque for £2045 for the Yorkshire Air Ambulance Appeal. Very many thanks for your support with the sponsorship.

Comic Relief was an added bit of fun with a fantastic array of "bad hair" and a collection of almost £200.

The P.T.A. Mothers' Day coffee morning was a lovely event. A few Mums on the P.T.A. committee had made a wonderful assortment of gifts for the children to buy. We hope you enjoyed the morning and that Mums liked the gifts.

Our work as a "healthy school" is going well. The children are responding well to Circle Time and realising that their opinions are respected and will be listened to. They are also being very sensible in their use of water bottles.

Older pupils took part in some work on Citizenship with the Northern Star Theatre Company.

Many children took part in our Easter service and they all enjoyed the new hymns. We hope that every child has an understanding of what Easter means to Christians. Key Stage 2 children enjoyed a disco and children from Year 1 upwards enjoyed a performance of The Trojan Horse on the last day of term.

The above web-site has been developed and carries a range of local information including some about the school. Please make use of this community resource.

Staffing

We hope to be able to welcome Mrs Smith back to school during this half term after her current absence. Mrs Smith will be working part time in key stage 2 and we know that the children will be pleased to see her.

SATs

The majority of children in school will undergo formal assessment this half term. Year 2 children will, hopefully, not know which are practice pieces and which are the statutory tests. Children in key stage 2 will all take tests during the week beginning 12 May. Year 6 follow a statutory timetable, years 3, 4 and 5 follow a school timetable.

Some children find tests stressful. Please help your child by keeping things in perspective and not showing them any concerns that you may have about SATs. We would be very grateful if all children could be at school by 8.55 a.m. each day as latecomers disturb all the class.

P.T.A.

Thank you for all the ink cartridges and mobile phones for recycling. This collection is on-going, so please keep them coming in.

Bag 2 School is this Friday morning. Please fill lots of bags, but don't put glass or pottery in as they break.

The Summer Fair is on Saturday 12 July. Please reserve the date.

Training Days

Wednesday 21 May
Friday 13 June

We have not been able to arrange our final training day as we had hoped. Instead, therefore, school will close for the summer on Friday 18 July.

School will reopen for children on Thursday 4 September.
