NewsLetter September 2005

PTA
Roundhay St John's has a hardworking and committed PTA who support the school in many ways. There are number of events planned for this term and you have already been sent details about them.

Fri 30th Sept - Macmillan Coffee Morning - 9 - 10.30am
Children will also have the chance to buy a biscuit during the morning for 25p.

Wed 12th Oct - PTA AGM Meeting - 7.30pm Everyone welcome for wine and nibbles to celebrate last year's successes. Would you like to be an officer for the PTA? The role of treasurer is vacant so come along and offer your services.

Thur 13th Oct - Bag2School - More details later.

Sat 3rd Dec - Winter Fair - a chance to do some Christmas shopping and help the school.

Governors
The Governing Body are no longer required to hold an Annual General Meeting for Parents, or to provide an Annual Report to Parents. Schools now have to provide a School Profile which will be partly compiled by the DfES and partly by ourselves. We are awaiting further guidance about the timing and format of this document.

Chair of Governors Dr Colin Cheeseman

Deputy Chair Mr Morris Smith

Parent Governors Mrs J Thompson

We currently have a vacancy for a Parent Governor and will shortly be asking for nominations. Being a governor is an important and rewarding way of supporting the school so if you feel you would like to take on the role please let us know.

A full list of governors will be included in the School Profile.

Prayer Group
A group meets regularly to pray for the school. The next meeting is Thursday 13th October, 2 pm at David and Julia Thompson's house. Everyone is welcome to join the group. If you would like more information phone David or Julia on 0113-2402036.

Admissions
Our nursery currently has spare places, if you know of any parents wanting a nursery place for their child, please ask them to contact Mrs Helen Prior at the above number.

Admission procedures have changed this year and there seems to be some confusion about applying for reception places. All parents wanting their child to join our school in September 2006 must ensure they have completed their yellow Common Preference Form and returned them to school or Merrion House by 21st October.
We will use the church/religious reference only if we have to apply our over subscribed criteria ie. if we have more than 30 applications.

School Uniform
Whilst most children are wearing the correct uniform, there are some who are not. Our prospectus states that boys should wear; white shirt with tie or white or red polo shirt, red jumper or sweatshirt, medium grey trousers. Girls should wear; white shirt with tie or white or red polo shirt, red jumper or sweatshirt, medium grey skirt, dress or trousers.

I would like to encourage the children to wear their school fleeces outdoors only if possible unless it is really cold. I would be very interested to know parents' views on school uniform. For example, should we be more strict about it? Should we be less strict about it? Please let me know what you think.

May I also remind parents that only small stud earrings may be worn for school, children wearing larger earrings or hooped earrings will be asked to remove them.

Final Note
In concluding this newsletter may I remind parents to ensure you inform the school office of any address or telephone number changes so we can maintain our Emergency Contact details accurately.

Thank you for your continued support and co-operation,

Yours sincerely

Mrs G H Winterburn
Headteacher
