Be Safe at Home
Ø Always walk home with friends or people who you
know.
Ø Go straight home-if you want to go to a friend's house then tell
your parents first.
Ø Never take short cuts even if you can get home quicker.
Ø Learn how to use a public phone to call:
· Home.
· The police, fire service or ambulance
by dialling 112 or 999
· When you have no money.
Ø Do not talk to anyone you don't know-if they won't leave you
alone shout out loud "Danger stranger, "Go away" or "leave
me alone"
Ø If you feel unsafe go into a public place such as a shop or library
and tell someone.
Ø Do not accept sweets, chocolate or juice from strangers, as you
do not really know what they are giving you.
Ø If you're going to be home alone let a friend or neighbour know
you are to be alone so they can watch for you.
Ø Listen at the door before you go in to make sure you can't hear
anyone.
Ø Call a relative or friend to let them know you are home safe.
Ø If the phone rings whilst you are at home do not give your name,
address or phone number and do not tell them that
you are alone.
Ø Never answer the door to anyone- ring a neighbour to come over
Ø Lock the door when you get inside so you have control over who
can come in.
Ø Always put the door chain on when answering the door (if you
have one) or look through the peephole (spy hole) - do
not open the door straight away.
Ø Make a plan with your parents about how you are going to be safe
whilst you're at home.
Ø Keep 20p in your pocket so you can use the phone in an emergency.
