Well I don't know how I persuaded Colin to let me record his sermons
- but he did!.
There are 2 ways to listen to the sermons - click on the link and the
file will immediately download and start playing on Windows Media Player
or similar. Alternatively right click on the link and you will be prompted
to supply a filename to store the sermon on your own pc. The file will
take a few minutes to download (depending upon the speed of your Internet
access). Once you have the file, click on it in Windows Explorer and Windows
Media Player or similar will play it back for you. Generally the sermons
last about 15 minutes and occupy approximately 0.75MB (High Compression=lower
quality), 2MB (Low Compression=higher quality). When I start running out
of web space, I'll start deleting the older Low Compression files. I didn't
zip the files because it didn't save too much space - and MP3 files were
too large. Happy listening!
Any readings below can be read by following this link, also available
from the index page- Readings Page
Sermon - Sunday 23rd Mar 2003 - High Compression
- Low Compression
This sermon is based around the readings of Exodus 20:1-17 (The 10 Commandments)
& 1 Corinthians 1:18-25 (God made foolish the wisdom of the world)
- and amazingly, a talking fish!! Colin used all 3 examples to show how
we try to 'typecast' God - and are then surprised when something happens
which does not fit our understanding!
Sermon - Sunday 16th Mar 2003 - High Compression
- Low Compression
This sermon is based around the readings of Genesis 17:1-7,15-16 &
Romans 4:13-25 (God's promise of children to Abraham, and Abraham's faith
in the promise) and Gospel reading of Mark 8:31-38 (Jesus' message to
the crowd - 'whoever wants to save his live will lose it but whoever loses
his life for me and for the Gospel will save it') - who would you trust
with your life!
Sermon - 9th Feb 2003 - High Compression
- Low Compression
This sermon was given by Rev Kathryn Fitzsimons, Urban Ministry Officer.
The sermon was based around the Gospel reading of Mark 1:29-39. Kathryn
drew parallels between her own ministy and the reading - the rolls that
people can adopt in a ministry setting - to be a helper, to be helped
or to be an observer - and, whichever of the 3 we were, how we could gain
from this. To find out about Kathryn and her ministry, please follow this
link.
Sermon - Candlemas -2nd Feb 2003 - High Compression
- Low Compression
This sermon is based around the Gospel reading of Luke 2:22-40 - the presentation
of Christ in the Temple and details of the faithful service (unto death)
of Simeon and Anna - and how our service could match that. Colin illustrated
his sermon with the legend of faithful dog Gelert - follow link
for more details.
Sermon - Sunday 26th Jan 2003 - High Compression
- Low Compression
This sermon was given by Roundhay Methodist Minister Rev Tim Morris. The
sermon based around the Gospel reading of John 2:1-11 (The Wedding in
Cana) - and discussed, in a fairly child centred way, 5 messages that
we could take from the reading - beginning with the letters - F, A, I,
T, H - which of course spells FAITH.
Sermon - Sunday 19th Jan 2003 - High Compression
- Low Compression
This sermon is based around the Old Testament reading of 1 Samual 3:1-10
(the calling of Samual) and Gospel reading of John 1:43-51 (the calling
of Nathanel) and discusses God's calling for us!.
Sermon - Sunday 12th Jan 2003 - High Compression
- Low Compression
This sermon was given by Rev Kathryn Fitzsimons, Urban Ministry Officer.
The sermon was based around the Gospel reading of Mark 1:4-11. Still within
Epiphany, the Gospel was about Jesus' own Baptism by John the Baptist
- Kathryn looks at how at Baptisms now a candle is given to those being
Baptised to symbolise that they are a 'light in the World' - and represent
God here on Earth. Kathryn then looked at what representing God means.

Sermon - Epiphany 5th Jan 2003 - High Compression
- Low Compression
This sermon is based around Matthew 2:1:12 - the visit of the Magi to
Bethlehem. Colin comments on the recent trend in trying to look for scientific
explanations for bible stories - like the star over Bethlehem - and how
this new information means nothing to those who believe and trust in the
word.
Sermon - 3rd Sunday in Advent 15th Dec 2002 - High
Compression - Low Compression
This sermon is based around 1 Thessalonians 5:16-22 'Be joyful always;
pray continually; give thanks in all circumstances, for this is God's
will for you in Christ Jesus. Do not put out the Spirit's fire; do not
treat phrohecies with contempt. Test everything. Hold on to the good.
Avoid every kind of evil.' Perhaps the nuts and bolts of a Christian life.
Sermon - 2nd Sunday in Advent 8th Dec 2002 - High
Compression - Low Compression

of John the Baptist who was in turn to prophesying the coming of Jesus.
